About Troop 1983

Troop 1983 was chartered in 1983 by Vale United Methodist Church, 11528 Vale Road, Oakton, VA. Troop 1983 is in the Powhatan District of the National Capital Area Council of the BSA.

Troop 1983 meets at the church on Monday nights during the school year, from 7:30 - 9:00 PM. The Scouts run the program, supervised by the adult leaders. Meetings follow Troop Meeting Plans and include skill sessions, event planning, and structured games. Generally, the troop has at least one "Big Event" each month, including overnight camping and activities such as biking, hiking, skiing, water sports, or caving, or merit badge work. The troop also participates in local council Camporees.

Scouts are organized into New Scout, Regular, and Venture patrols. The Patrol Leaders Council (PLC) meets during the last week of each month to plan the troop's meetings and activities.

Troop 1983 participates in many community service projects, including helping with the annual Country Fair at the Vale Schoolhouse, and various projects at the Vale United Methodist Church, as well as assisting troop members with their Eagle Projects.

Since the troop was chartered, more than 60 Scouts have achieved the rank of Eagle Scout.
